Kuntala Waterfalls

Want to enjoy the sound and sight of gushing waters? Well, Kuntala waterfalls near Neredikonda village in Adilabad is the place to be in! People travel all the way to this picnic spot with picturesque natural beauty all around the place. Do you know that Kuntala waterfalls is the highest waterfall in Telangana. It is located in the middle of the Sahyadri ranges. This waterfall owes its name to Shakuntala - wife of King Dushyanta who used to bathe here. River Kadam flows nearby and adds to the beauty of the entire place.

You can also visit the famous Someshwara Swami temple situated in the vicinity. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and witnesses heavy footfalls visited during the festival of Mahashivratri. Another waterfalls known as Pochera Waterfalls which is quite near to Kuntala waterfalls.

Nirmal

Nirmal is famous for toy industry and miniature paintings carved on plates. Fine glazed toys and paintings are known by the name of the town. Craftsmen use locally available soft wood for carving beautiful life-like replicas of vegetables, fruits, animals and dolls. Nirmal paintings are famous for their rich colour and variety.There is an old fort too where you can enjoy age old architectural beauty.

Mahatma Gandhi Park

Well, this is a quiet and serene place where tourists and local residents visit with their families and friends to enjoy moments of solitude amidst nature. Some people come here for exercising and brisk walking  or even meditation.

Kala Ashram

There are books covering diverse subjects in this ashram which was founded by Shri Ravindra Sharma in the year 1979. You can flip through books on traditional arts, philosophy, culture, science and technology. The ashram is working towards reviving fading art form such as Bhiksha Vruttis.


Temples near Adilabad

Basar Saraswathi Temple

This is a famous temple in Adilabad. It is situated on the banks of river Godavari and is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati - Goddess of learning, music, art and Science. It is believed that sage Ved Vyas performed severe penance at this place. Devotees visit this temple to perform 'Akshara abhyasam' ceremony for the children before they start formal school education. Vodavathi Sila, the Ashtdteerth are other places of interest around Basar.

Wildlife Sanctuaries in Adilabad

Wildlife Sanctuaries in Adilabad include Pranahita, Shivaram and Kawal Wildlife Sanctuaries.
Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary is part of a reserved forest. There are some very old trees here along with other dry deciduous trees, flora and fauna. Animals found here comprise of  tiger, porcupine, palm civet, hyena, otter and forest cats.

A real treat for bird watchers too! Birds such as ducks, herons, teals etc. are found here. The sanctuary covers an area of 136 sq. kms. and was established in the year 1980. This sanctuary is 35 Kms from Mancherial.

Sivaram Wildlife Sanctuary on the banks of Godavari river was established in the year 1987 and is spread across 36.29 sq. kms. There are too many crocodiles in this wildlife sanctuary and if you are an animal lover, you will certainly enjoy the sight! Other animals found here are deer, cheetal, langur, fox, monkey etc.

Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1964,  has a variety of plants including bamboo and teak trees. Wild animals like deer, python, panther, cheetal, tiger, cobra,   eagles, owls, peacocks and some reptiles too. This sanctuary was notified as tiger reserve in April 2012.


Wildlife attractions in Adilabad


Kawal wildlife sanctuary is spread over an area of 893 sq. kms. Dry deciduous teak forests, about 2 sq. kms of Reserve forest on the banks of river Pranahita, a tributary of river Godavari and a prehistoric rock formation will make your visit to this sanctuary interesting. Kawal is about 50 kms from Mancherial and 70 kms from Nirrnal.

Other temples in and around Adilabad include Venkateshwara Swamy temple, Lord Shiva Temple, Rani Satiji Mandir, Ayyappa Temple, Brahmendra Swami Temple, Ganesh Temple, Hanuman temple. Holy Family Church is a famous church in this city. You can also visit Khanapur Lake in Adilabad and the Mathadivagu project near Adilabad.
